Friction Stays (Hinge)
Standard Stay (Hinge)
This is the most common hinge that simply opens your window. The term ‘friction’ refers to the hinges ability to hold the window open without any support.
Restrictor Stay (Hinge)
A Restrictor hinge operates in exactly the same way as a friction stay but when opening, the stay will engage in a locked posotion at approximately 100mm. This can be released by depressing a button on the stay that will then allow the vent or sash to open to its widest position.
Egress Stay (Hinge)
An Egress (exit) stay allows a window to open far enough to give adequate egress. An Egress stay should provide a clear window opening through which a person could escape in the event of fire. Please refer to Part B of the Building Regulations for Fire Safety for further details on minimum window opening sizes and where, in a building, you need to position Egress windows.
